Paula Rae Barney, age 72, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died on Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at her home.

Born November 26, 1949 in Greensboro, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Paul Gerald and Dorothy Jane Willey Youngblood.

She was a Christian.

Paula was a graduate of Berkeley Springs High School and retired as a cook from War Memorial Hospital in Berkeley Springs.

She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Risinger-Stotler V.F.W. Post #4019 and the Ladies Auxiliary of Alderton-Dawson American Legion Post #60.

She enjoyed cooking, flower gardening and taking long car rides.

Paula is survived by her children, Ritchie Lee Barney, Patrick Kevin Barney and Carrie Ann Barney, all of Berkeley Springs and Rodney Lane Barney of Mount Juliet, Tenn., two sisters, Robin Wills and Penny Yost and one brother, Gerald “Lynnie” Youngblood, all of Berkeley Springs, six grandchildren, Richard Barney of Hagerstown, Md., Morgan Cain, Camden Barney and Nevaeh Wills, all of Berkeley Springs, Logan Barney of Mount Juliet, Tenn. and Jayden Wills of Princeton, W.Va., three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Lee Barney, her foster parents, Elmer “Shorty” and Ellen Deneen McCoy, one sister, Jackie Garrett and one brother, Johnny Youngblood.

Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. on Monday, May 16, 2022 at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va. where the family received friends from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Pastor Rodney Truax officiated. Interment was in Greenway Cemetery.
