Norma Fay Barchers

1928-2021

Norma Fay (Lunceford) Barchers, beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, 93, of Berkeley Springs, West Virginia, crossed over into glory with her Lord and Savior on December 29, 2021.

Norma was born on May 14, 1928, on a farm near Oak Grove, Jackson County, Missouri.

She graduated from Oak Grove High School as class valedictorian. She loved sports and really enjoyed playing on the girls’ varsity basketball team.

Following high school, Norma moved to Washington, D.C. where following a whirlwind romance she married Ernest August Barchers, Jr., whom she had met at church. They began married life in Wheaton, Maryland, then later Rockville, Maryland before moving to rural Berkeley Springs, West Virginia.

Norma will be missed not only by her family but by dear friends in the northern Shenandoah Valley region of Virginia and West Virginia, particularly those from Faith in God Chapel, Berkeley Springs, and Winchester Church of God, Winchester, Virginia where she was active in church activities and sang in the choir for several years. She loved reading her Bible and praying for others.

Norma is survived by her children, Steven (Frank) of Cape Coral, Fla. and Joy Carter (Michael) of Berkeley Springs; daughter-in-law Patricia Shipe Barchers of Port Republic, Md.; grandsons, Erick Barchers of Lusby, Md.; Matthew Carter of St. Augustine, Fla., Dr. Christopher Carter (Sara) of Bloomington, Ind.; Aaron Barchers (Kimberly) of Saint Leonard, Md., Sean Barchers of Front Royal, Va., Brian Carter of Broadway, Va., Kyle Barchers of Huntingtown, Md., and Dr. Mark Carter (Madaline) of Marietta, Ohio; great-granddaughters, Chloe Carter, Abigail Carter, Eliana Carter of Hummelstown, Pa. (along with their mother Jamie), and Kylee Barchers of Huntingtown, Md.; brothers-in-law Billy Barchers of Virginia Beach, Va. and Rev. Don Griffin of Lake City, Iowa as well as multiple nieces and nephews.

Norma was predeceased by her husband Ernest of 72 years, son Ronald, her parents and all seven siblings.

A memorial service will be held at a later time.
