1953-2022

Mark Joseph Smith, 69, passed away Tuesday, March 1, 2022, at The University of Maryland Capital Regional Health, Largo, Md.

Born February 19, 1953, in Baltimore, Md., he was the son of Dr. Joseph Hurst Smith and Mildred L. Fox and the husband of Tammy S. (Yost) Smith.

He was a 1972 graduate of St. Maria Goretti High School, and a graduate of the Hagerstown Business College, both in Hagerstown, Md.

He was a U.S. Navy Veteran and a member of the St. Peter Catholic Church, in Hancock.

He worked in Golf Services and always showed a love for all sports.

He was a 1966 1st Place winner of The Ford Punt Pass and Kick competitions. He was a member of the Pen-Mar Jaycees and the Maryland Militia #373, where he served as Past President. He was active with the Lions International.

He was a member of the Hancock Lioness Lions Club, a Past President of the West Hagerstown Lions Club and a Melvin Jones Life Achievement recipient.

In addition to his wife of 22 years, he is survived by two sons, Eric J. Smith, and wife Jill, of Ft. Loudon, Pa., and Branden S. Smith, of Hancock, Md.; one daughter, Stacy M. Smith of Hagerstown, Md.; and one step-grandson, Cyruss Boyer, of Shippensburg, Pa.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 7, at 11 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 141 West Main Street, Hancock, Md., Deacon James Mason officiating. Burial followed the service at St. Peter Catholic Church Cemetery, 16 E. High Street, Hancock. Military honors were by the Tri-State Honor Guard.
