In what could be considered a marathon week the Berkeley Springs Lady Indians softball team played seven games in six days. Berkeley Springs picked up four wins out of the seven games to improve their 2022 record to 6-11.

On Monday, April 11 the Lady Indians hosted the Class AAA Hampshire Trojans. Hampshire took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but Berkeley Springs rallied back to tie the game at 1-1 with a run in the bottom of the inning. Neither team could score a run in the second inning. The Lady Indians broke the tie in the bottom of the third inning with four runs to go up 5-1. In the bot- tom of the fourth inning the Tribe tacked on five more runs to increase their lead to 10-1. Hampshire would score one in the top of the fifth inning, but it was not enough as Berkeley Springs took the 10-2 win by run rule in five innings.
Allison Gray led the Berkeley Springs attack with a double, triple, scored 2 runs, and knocked in 3 RBI’ s. Emma Widmeyer (2 singles, 3 runs, & RBI), Rileigh Fink (run), Alaira Harrington (single, double, & 2 runs), and Emily Schultz (double & 2 runs) also delivered at the plate.
Alaira Harrington got the win in the circle going four innings, scattering four hits, and striking out five. Emily Schultz pitched the final inning giving up a hit and striking out two Trojan batters.
On Tuesday, April 12 the Lady Indians traveled to Inwood, for a contest against the Musselman Applemen. The first two innings were scoreless for Berkeley Springs. Musselman broke the 0-0 score with three runs in the bottom of the second inning to go up 3-0. In the bottom of the third inning Musselman added two more runs to increase the score to 5-0. ning with four runs to cut the score to 5-4. Musselman would add a run in both the bottom of the fifth and sixth inning to push the score to 7- 4. Berkeley Springs would add a run in the top of the seventh but it was not enough as Musselman held on for the 7-5 win.
Emma Widmeyer (single, double, run, & RBI) and Allison Gray (single, triple, & 2 RBI’ s) led the Lady Indians at the plate. Destiny Parsell (single), Justina Vann (single & run), Rileigh Fink (run), Hailee Lewis (double & run), and Alaira Harrington (run) also contributed.
On Wednesday, April 13 the Lady Indians hit the road for a double header at sectional rival Frankfort. After the first inning of play the Tribe led 2-1. Frankfort would bounce back in the bottom of the second inning with two runs to take a 3-2 lead. From the Lady Indians offense would takeover in the top of the third inning with three runs and once again in the top of the fourth with two more runs to hold a 7-4 lead. Berkeley Springs would add two more runs in the top of the sixth inning to secure the 9-4 win over the Falcons in game one.
Sophomore Allison Gray brought out the big bats in this game. Gray finished the game with a homerun, triple, double, scored 2 runs, and had 4 RBI’s. Also contributing to the offense was Des- tiny Parsell (single, double, run, and RBI), Emma Widmeyer (single, double, and scored 4 runs), Hailee Lewis (2 singles), Alaira Harrington (2 singles & a run), Emily Schultz (single and RBI), Jayda Thompson (single), and Justina Vance (run).

In game two Berkeley Springs made short work of the Falcons taking the 14-3 win in three innings. Offensively the Lady Indians were led by Justina Vance (single, double, 2 runs, and 3 RBI’s), Layla Parsell (run), Emma Widmeyer (triple, 2 runs, and an RBI), Ocean Clatterbuck (single, run, and RBI), Marley Heath (2 runs), Rileigh Fink (single and RBI), Annie Visco (run), Hailee Lewis (single, run, and 2 RBI’ s), Alaira Harrington (single and run), Allison Gray (single, 2 runs, and 3 RBI’s), and Emily Schultz (run).
Hailee Lewis got the start going two innings, allowing one hit, and striking out one. Alaira Harrington came on in relief pitching one inning and striking out two to pick up the win.
On Thursday, April 14 the Lady Indians continued their road trip this time with a contest at Spring Mills. The Cardinals jumped out to a 1- 0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Berkeley Springs would tie the score at 1-1 in the top of the fourth inning. Spring Mills would bounce back with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to go up 3-1. The Cardinals would add three more runs once again in the bottom of the sixth inning to push the score to 6-1. The Lady Indians scored another run in the top of the seventh inning but it was not enough to complete the comeback. Spring Mills would take the 6-2 win.
Destiny Parsell (single and RBI), Emma Widmeyer (single, double, and run), Ocean Clatterbuck (run), Hailee Lewis (2 singles), Alaira Harrington (single), and Allison Gray (single) led the way.
On Friday, April 15 the Lady Indians would finally return to their home field. They would take on South Huntingdon out of Pennsylvania. South Huntingdon scored seven runs in the top of the second inning and then would add four runs in the top of the third inning to go up 11-0. South would add two more runs to make the final score 13-0 to hand the Lady Indians a loss.
Emma Widmeyer (single and triple), Destiny Parsell (single), and Layla Parsell (single) added the only hits for the Lady Indians.
On Saturday, April 16 the Lady Indians would host the Spring Mills Cardinals to town. Spring Mills would take a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. The Cardinals would make the score 2-0 in the top of the third inning with another run. Berkeley Springs would bounce back to tie the score at 2-2 with two runs of their own. Spring Mills would reclaim the lead with four runs in the top of the fourth inning. Berkeley Springs would answer right back with five runs in the bot- tom of the fourth to go up 7- 6. The Lady Indians would score two more runs in the
bottom of the sixth inning and would hold off the Spring Mills rally to secure the 9-6 win.
Allison Gray (single, double, 2 runs, and RBI) and Emma Widmeyer (2 singles, double, 3 runs, and 2 RBI’s) led the way at the plate. Berkeley Springs also got an outstanding performance at the plate from Destiny Parsell (single, 2 doubles, and 2 RBI’ s), Ocean Clatterbuck (run), Marley Heath (single and run), Hailee Lewis (run), Alaira Harrington (2 singles, run, and 2 RBI’s) and Emily Schultz (single and RBI).

The Lady Indians will be back in action this coming week with an away contest at Hancock on Monday, April 18 at 4:45 p.m. On Wednesday, April 20 the Lady Indians will host St. James at 4:30 p.m. On Friday, April 22 and Saturday, April 23 Berkeley Springs will travel to Moorefield to play in the Bub Riggleman Invitational starting at 6 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. on Saturday.
