1939-2022

John Paul “Jack” Kendo, age 83, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died on Tuesday, June 7, 2022 at his home. B

orn February 14, 1939 in Windsor Heights, W.Va., he was the son of the late Anthony Thomas and Mary Rose Bibbo Kendo.

He was a member of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Windsor Heights, W.Va. Jack was a 1958 graduate of Wellsburg High School, Wellsburg, W.Va. He served with the U.S. Army from October 23, 1958 until his honorable discharge at the rank of SP4 on January 30, 1962, including a tour of duty in Germany. He also served as a Corporal with the Army National Guard until August 1, 1980. Jack retired as an electrician with AT&T Western Electric in 1989. He also worked as a custodian with Morgan County Public Schools for six years. He was a member of Alderton-Dawson American Legion Post #60 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #4244, both in Berkeley Springs. Jack was an avid hunter and fisherman.

He is survived by two daughters, Annette Marie Lawton of Nashville, N.C. and Kerry Anne Kendo of Berkeley Springs, six grandchildren, Josh Bee of Parkersburg, W.Va., Nikki Bee of Newark, Del., Brent Lawton of Fayetteville, N.C., Kyle Gorrell and Krista Gorrell, both of Middleburg, Fla. and Amber Kendo of Albuquerque, N.M. and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Flo Snider Kendo on July 20, 2021, three sisters, Mariette Benda, Teresa White and Bea Lahita and four brothers, Thomas, Anthony, Delbert and Donald Kendo.

There will be a Christian Wake Prayer Service at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 17, 2022 at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va. with Rev. Fr. Mikee Lecias officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Tri-State Honor Guard. Interment will be private.

The family will receive friends from noon – 2 p.m. on Friday at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home.

There will be a reception from 3-6 p.m. at the American Legion following the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tri-State Honor Guard, 527 N. Washington Street, Berkeley Springs, WV 25411.
