Irene Greene Bailey
1933-2022
Irene Greene Bailey is no longer on this earth, she is now in her heavenly home as of Wednesday, July 6, 2022. She was 89 years old and was residing at Green Ridge Village in Newville, Pa.
She was born June 6, 1933 in Sanford, Fla., and was the daughter of the late Victor Mapes Greene, Sr. and Margaret Slaughter Foster Greene (fondly known as “Sugar”). I
rene was a graduate of Hampton Dubose Academy in Zellwood, Fla. and attended Kings College in Wilmington, Del.
She had worked for DuPont in Wilmington, Del. and was a school bus driver in Wilmington, Del. and Paw Paw, W.Va. for about 30 years.
She was a member of the Club Mountain Amateur Radio Club and was very involved in her community and church.
For many years, she taught for Child Evangelism Fellowship. She loved teaching Bible classes and taught a Bible class at Green Ridge up until March 2020.
She enjoyed sewing, crafts, crocheting and knitting. Irene also loved taking her nieces on camping trips in her younger years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her husband, Jack Clyde Bailey; brothers, Mapes Greene and Alfred Greene; her sister-in-law, Barbara Greene, and daughter-in-law, Eliana Gunning.
Those she left behind were her three wonderful sons, whom she loved very much – William J. Gunning and his wife, Karen of Carlisle, Pa., Retired EM1/SS Henry F. Gunning, (ret.), USN – of Swampscott, Mass. and Charles R. Gunning and his wife, Deborah of Lincoln, Ill. Five grandchildren – Cara and husband, Adam Ramlow of Lincoln, Ill., Cassie and husband, Alex Benz of St. Charles, Mo., Caroline Gunning Swampscott of Mass., SSgt. Christopher Gunning USMC of Los Angeles, Calif. and Abigail Gunning of St. Louis, Mo. And two great-grandchildren – James and Noah Benz.
A graveside service will be held at Woodrow Cemetery, Paw Paw, West Virginia at 11 a.m. Friday, July 15, 2022 with Pastor Jeff Rossingnol officiating.
In lieu of flowers (as Irene did not care for flowers), memorials may be made to Answers in Genesis, P. O. Box 510, Hebron, KY 41048, in her memory.
