Indians fall on road to Keyser

by Jamie Harris

The Berkeley Springs High School Indians Football Team traveled to Mineral County last Friday, September 3 for a game at Keyser High School. The Indians were looking for their first win of the season while the Golden Tornado were playing their season opener due to their previous game being postponed.

Keyser jumped out to a quick 20-0 second quarter lead before the Indians reached the end zone on an Evan Thompson touchdown run to cut the score to 20-7. By halftime, the Golden Tornado pushed the lead to 26-7.

In the second half Keyser increased their lead to 45-7 until the final minute and half. That is when the Tribe’s senior quarterback Gavin Barkley found senior receiver Shawn Lord from 30 yards out for a touchdown to make the final score 45-14.

There were no stats available for the game. Up next for the Indians (0-2) is a rare Saturday afternoon game on September 11 at Morgan Field starting at 1 p.m. when the Braxton County Eagles (1-1) come to Berkeley Springs.
