Indians baseball ready to make run to the post season

by Jamie Harris

The 2022 Berkeley Springs High School Indians Baseball Team will open its season on Friday, March 18 at Hampshire. The Tribe will follow that up with a home opener on Saturday, March 19 against the Moorefield Yellow Jackets the three-time defending Class A State Champions.

The Indians will be looking to capture team titles with a trip to Bridgeport for the McDonald’s Classic on April 15 and 16 and the Ron Clatterbuck Invitational at home on April 30 with Grace Academy, Legacy Christian and East Hardy.

“The baseball team will always have a tough schedule competing against AAA teams in our area, and that will prepare us for our post season push,” stated Indians head coach Scott Hessler.

“We have four returning seniors from last year. Evan Thompson at short stop, Nathan Guzick behind the plate, Logan Whitmore and Tyler Barney in the outfield and pitching. Along with those seniors, we also have six returning juniors who will all be contributing again this season. Cole Oursler, Riley Albanese, Chance Swink and Reagan Johnson in the infield and the mound, Garrett Stotler in the outfield and pitching and Caleb Stotler who catches, pitches, and is an all-around utility player. The last of our roster is made up of some underclassmen who we are excited about playing,” stated Hessler.

“My assistant coach Colby Farris and I are looking forward to the upcoming season. We had some guys putting in a ton of work in the weight room in the off-season and are excited for that hard work to pay off,” stated the Tribe skipper.
