Gordon Kirk Chambers
1945-2021
Gordon Kirk Chambers, age 76, of Great Cacapon, W.Va., died on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at The Berkeley Springs Center.
Born January 25, 1945 in Cumberland, Md., he was the son of the late George Kenneth, Sr. and Catherine Eugenia Flora Chambers.
He was a member of Peoples Assembly of God in Great Cacapon. He attended public schools in Paw Paw, W.Va., and had worked as a mechanic with T.H. Compton Trucking in Berkeley Springs, with Cassidy Trucking in Hagerstown, Md., and finally with the West Virginia Department of Highways.
Gordon enjoyed reading, poetry, watching westerns and spending time with his family.
He is survived by four daughters, Kimberly Kaye Hensley, of Inwood, W.Va., Karla Jeanette Ziler and Karen Renee Bartgis, both of Hedgesville, W.Va., and Susan Lynn Combs, of Berkeley Springs; his sister, Caryol Jean Evans, of Paw Paw; his twin, George Kenneth Chambers, Jr., of Paw Paw; 10 grandchildren, Nathan Andrew Bartgis, Breonnah Michelle Ziler, Collin Jeffrey Ziler, Kaelyn Elizabeth Bartgis, Kailee Jo-Hannah Combs and Blaine Kirkland Bartgis, all of Hedgesville, Austin Hunter Bartgis, of Morgantown, W.Va., Candace Brooke Kesecker and Tristan Bradley Combs, all of Berkeley Springs and Morgan Brittany Hensley of Inwood, W.Va.; two great grandchildren, Paisley Abigail Pruitt, of Inwood and Alayna Rayne, of Hedgesville and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Elizabeth Fischer Chambers, on August 19, 2005; and one brother, George Frederick Chambers.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, September 20, at People’s Assembly of God, 295 Rock Ford Road, Great Cacapon, Pastor Dave Kidwell officiated. Interment was in Great Cacapon Cemetery.
