Dr. Ralph Edward Thomas
1962-2021
Dr. Ralph Edward Thomas, 59, of Williamsport, Pennsylvania passed away on Sunday, September 12, 2021 after a brief battle with cancer.
He was born on February 17, 1962 to Dr. Frank B Thomas III and Marion Reich Thomas of Hancock, Maryland.
Ralph was the fourth of nine children, five boys and four girls. R
alph attended Saint Mary Catholic School and graduated from Saint Maria Goretti Catholic High School in 1980.
He loved being on the Hancock Little League baseball team. He also loved playing soccer for the Goretti Gaels and was selected to the All County Soccer Team.
Ralph spent a year working in construction. At the end of that year, he said “I’m going to go back to school and become a doctor because I’m not working anymore.” It’s not work if you do what you love! He was almost as well known for his mechanical work for himself and others as he was for being an anesthesiologist.
Ralph received his degree in chemistry from Frostburg State University. He graduated in 1991 from the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Ralph practiced as an anesthesiologist for 26 years at UPMC Susquehanna in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
Ralph is survived by his wife of 30 years, Tania Hanna Thomas and his daughter Elena N. Thomas of Williamsport, Pennsylvania; his mother, Marion Reich Thomas; his siblings: Marion Lane of Waynesville, N.C.; Frank B Thomas IV and wife Mary Vivian of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; Michael Thomas and wife Angie of Little Orleans, Md.; Theresa Pittman and Rosemarie Horz of Hancock, Md.; Charles Thomas and wife Elizabeth of Annapolis, Md.; Paul Thomas and wife Kathy of Williamsport, Md.; Elizabeth Woltemath and husband Brian of Virginia Beach, Va. Ralph is also survived by his father and mother in law, Abraham and Nancy Hanna of Bishopville, Md.; and sisters in law Myrna Hanna of Takoma Park, Md.; Judy Hanna Allen and husband Thomas of Washington, D.C. In addition, he is survived by numerous aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Ralph was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Frank B Thomas III; and brothers in law, Dr. Christopher Lane and Max Horz, Jr.
A Memorial Mass will be held at Saint Peter Catholic Church in Hancock, Maryland on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at 12:30 p.m. Celebrant will be Father Alan Thomas, Ralph’s cousin, assisted by Father Joseph Langan.
A reception and lunch will follow in the Parish Hall. All are invited.
