David S. Hott

1944-2021

David S. Hott, age 77, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., passed away on Sunday, October 17, 2021, at his home.

Born April 27, 1944, in Cumberland, Md., he was the son of late Wendell C. Hott and Eloise Belle (Shanholtz) Hott; and the husband of Vickie C. (Wilson) Hott, whom he was married to for 27 years.

He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Air Force.

He was a self-employed carpenter and an avid woodworker.

He was a member of the Mount Olivet United Methodist Church, in Berkeley Springs; and a member of the Hancock Arts Council. As such, he participated in their Barge Bash, the Chili Cookoff and Winterfest, all in Hancock, Md.

He also greatly enjoyed the time he spent hunting, fishing and camping.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Jeffery C. Hott, of Cumberland, Md., and John R. Shepherd and his wife, Kattie, of Berkeley Springs; two daughters, Martha “Marti” E. Simpson and her husband, Blair, of Short Gap, W.Va., and Kay E. Stotler, of Shelburne, Vt.; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Franklin C. Hott, Sr., of Short Gap, W.Va., Gary W. Shanholtz, of Cumberland, Md., and Lloyd M. Hott, of Cumberland and one sister, Mary Jo Kinser, of Camp Creek, W.Va.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ciallene P. (Cline) Hott and one brother, David G. Hott, Sr.

Services were held on Wednesday, October 20, 2021, at 11 a.m., at the Mount Olivet United Methodist Church, 6752 Winchester Grade Road, Berkeley Springs, W.Va., Pastor Lloyd McCanna officiated. A Celebration of Life was also held the same day at 1 p.m., at the Webster B. Harrison Post 26 American Legion, 240 East Main Street, Hancock, Md.

The arrangements were entrusted to the Grove Funeral Home, in Hancock.
