1944-2022

David Joseph “Joe” Diehl, 77, of Hancock, Md., passed away March 17, 2022, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.

Born August 16, 1944, in Hancock, Md., he was the son of the late David Ross and Helen Lee Landers Diehl.

He was a 1961 graduate of Massanutten Military Academy in Virginia.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

He was an enthusiastic fan of the Green Bay Packers and Boston Red Sox. He enjoyed restoring his mother’s 1962 Chevy II Nova.

He was a member of the Williamsport Redman Club Lodge 84, Williamsport, Md., the Local UAW 149, and The Hancock American Legion.

He retired from Abex’s-Federal Mogul after 40 years of service.

He is survived by one daughter, Melodie D. Deshong, partner Jeff, Ft. Littleton, Pa.; one son, David Joseph “Joey” Diehl II, partner Mark, Hagerstown, Md.; four grandchildren, Levi, Dakota, Alec and Abigail; four great-grandchildren, Brooklyn, Jaxon, Carter and Baby Brooks David; Best Life Friend, Brenda Bishop; one brother, Donnie Landers, and wife Janice; one sister, Linda Haupt, and husband, Ragan; multiple aunts, uncles and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, George and L. Diehl; his aunt Sis and Uncle Reno.

The family received friends, Tuesday, March 22, 2022, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., at Grove Funeral Home, 141 West Main St, Hancock, Md. Funeral service followed at the funeral home at 1 p.m. Pastor Beverly Hill officiated. Burial followed at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, 17636 W. Washington St., Hagerstown, MD 21740.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Grove Funeral Home, Hancock, Md.
