Danny William McCusker
1961-2021
Danny William “Pop Dan” McCusker, age 60, passed away on Wednesday, September 29, 2021, at the Winchester Medical Center, in Winchester, Va.
Born July 16, 1961, in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., he was the son of the late Harry W. McCusker and Shelby Jean Flowers-McCusker.
Danny was a 1979 graduate of Hancock High school.
He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, and had served for 10 years. During his time of service, he had been stationed on the U.S.S. Coral Sea.
He was employed at Tractor Supply Distribution Center (The Ranch), in Hagerstown, Md. He had formerly been employed at Fleetwood, in Hancock, Md.
He had served as Commander at the Hancock VFW Post 10502, of which he had been a long-standing member.
Danny’s hobbies included carpentry, fishing, and cooking out on the grill with friends and family. He was especially passionate about golfing with his buddies. He also enjoyed sitting on his porch telling jokes and talking with anyone who came by. He just loved to make people laugh. He wore his heart on his sleeve.
In addition to his “soulmate” and life partner, Dixie Lee Miller; Danny is survived by two sons, Bryan McCusker and Brendon McCusker, both of Hancock, Md.; one stepdaughter, Brandy L. Shives-Pryor and her husband, Cole, of Hancock, Md.; one sister, Tammy Jean Leach and her husband, Tommy, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; one brother, Dave McCusker, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; one nephew, Jordan Leach and his wife, Lindsay, of Falling Waters, W.Va.; six grandchildren, Eric Shives, Nick Shives, Jamie Shives, Alley Allen, Abbey Bussard, and Branson Pryor; three great-grandchildren, Preston Morris, Theodore Dennis, and Rhett Clingerman; his ex-wife, Tonya McCusker, of Hancock, Md.; and a number of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his aunt, Delores “Dee Dee” Lucas.
The family received friends at Grove Funeral Home, 141 West Main Street, Hancock, Md., on Sunday, October 3, 2021, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Funeral services were held on Monday, October 4, 2021, at 10 a.m., at Mt. Olivet Presbyterian Church, 14253 Exline Road, Hancock, Md. Ann Mazingo officiated, Burial in the adjoining cemetery, with military honors conducted by the Tri-State Honor Guard.
