100 year old George Beam (front center), a former Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) worker from Fort Ashby in Mineral County, was honored for his service in helping to build Cacapon State Park during his time at Camp Morgan in the 1930s. Retired Cacapon State Park Superintendent Tom Ambrose also honored CCC worker P.T. McIntire who attended the Cacapon State Park Homecoming event for many years and who passed away last year. The CCC constructed the Old Inn, the picnic area, the stables, cabins, the lake and around 20 miles of hiking and horse trails. Pictured with Beam are Cacapon State Park Superintendent Scott Fortney, Park Naturalist Valerie Chaney, Beam’s daughter Doris Roderick, Assistant Park Superintendent Kelly Smith, Beam’s daughter Shirley Bosley and Park Ranger Joe Emmerth. Check out the Morgan Messenger for more homecoming photos.
