Bernard William Michael

Bernard William Michael

1934-2022

With much sadness we announce the death of our loved one, Bernard (Bunny) William Michael, 87 of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., who went home to be with Jesus on Tuesday, March 15, 2022 with family by his side.

Bernard (Bunny) was born April 1, 1934, Easter Sunday, in a cabin along Spriggs Road in Morgan County, W.Va. The oldest of four sons, Bunny helped out on his family’s small farm from an early age.

He married Peggy Iden and in April they would have celebrated 67 years together. In 1956 they moved to Islip, N.Y. to work for Western Union.

Bunny brought his family back to Berkeley Springs and began working as a John Deere mechanic for Dawson’s where he stayed until his retirement.

A man of many talents, Bunny could usually be found working in his garden, riding his John Deere tractor or repairing and building things in his garage.

He was a dedicated Christian and faithful church member, especially at Trinity United Methodist Church in Berkeley Springs where he served in numerous ways and positions.

His family was of great importance to him and he loved making memories with them. Hunting with his sons and even his grandchildren was one of his greatest joys. Bunny was called “Papaw” and “Pap” by his grandchildren and great grandchildren and he was very proud of each one.

He was a man who loved to laugh and laugh heartily, which is one of the things we all miss most. Our greatest comfort is that as a young man, Bunny gave his life to Jesus as His Savior and we know we will all be together again one sweet day!

He is survived by his wife, Peggy. His son Scott E. Michael and Cathy; granddaughter Crystal Dallke and great-grandsons, Zachariah and Cole; granddaughter Wendi Walton and Chris, great-granddaughters Claire and Caroline; His son, Timothy (Tim) M. Michael and Jill; granddaughter Hannah Vattelana and Chris, great-granddaughters Caprice, Mercedes, and Blake and great-grandson Thaddeus; grandson Phillip and Rachael and great-granddaughter Charlotte; granddaughter Abigail and grandson Jezreel. His brothers Roger Michael and Larry and Shirley Michael.

Predeceased by his father William D. Michael, his mother Beulah V. Michael and his brother Ronald Douglas Michael.

Services were conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 21, 2022 at Warm Springs Baptist Church, 3683 Pious Ridge Road, Berkeley Springs, W.Va., with Pastor Robert Burton. Burial was in Highland Cemetery.

The family received friends from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, March 20, 2022 at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va. and one hour prior to services on Monday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in the name of Bernard be made to Warm Springs Baptist Church Building Fund, 3683 Pious Ridge Road, Berkeley Springs, WV 25411.
