Stonerise Berkeley Springs, Morgan County largest nursing home and rehab center, has been purchased by an Ohio-based company called CommuniCare Health Services.

In a press release dated July 6, officials with Stonerise announced that CommuniCare has bought the West Virginia company’s 17 health care centers, home health agencies and services. Some of those are in Ohio.

Stonerise bought the Berkeley Springs center in 2015 for $4.5 million from Dayspring, Inc. The facility, located on Autumn Acres Road, was originally known as Valley View Nursing Home.

Questions about how the change in ownership would affect the residents, patients and staff at the Berkeley Springs Center were directed to a spokesman for CommuniCare, who said the acquisition took effect on July 1.

He said the company is “honored to welcome them into the CommuniCare family as we share the same values and dedication to service excellence. The acquisition also allows us to expand our service offerings in the West Virginia market.”

“We continue to be impressed with the Stonerise team and their dedication for caring for their patients and creating world-class facilities and we look forward ensuring that the current team continues that level of care,” the company spokesman said.

CommuniCare reportedly owns 110 healthcare centers in seven states — Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland, Virginia, Indiana and Missouri — with a bed count nearing 14,000, the company said.

Stonerise Berkeley Springs is a 120-bed transitional care center that serves short- and long-term patients.

Jessica Hudson, a longtime executive officer of Stonerise will serve as the Division Vice President over the CommuniCare healthcare centers in West Virginia, which will continue to operate under the Stonerise brand.

“CommuniCare and Stonerise hold many shared values and working together, we will continue to provide quality care to those patients we serve,” Hudson said. “I also am excited about CommuniCare’s commitment to retaining all Stonerise team members and creating opportunities for new team members in West Virginia.”
