The Berkeley Springs High School Track and Field Team headed to Keyser for the 2022 PVC Division 1 (big school) Championships last Wednesday, May 4 which happens to be Star Wars meme day of “May the fourth be with you.”
Berkeley Springs had the force with them as the Tribe crowned six PVC champions.
The Lady Indians finished third in the team standings with 76 points. Frankfort (125) and Hampshire (106) were the top two teams. Berkeley Springs had four individual PVC champions led by Audrey Helmick (3200 meters, 12:49), Eva Jacobsen (high jump, 4’ 8”), Kaitlin Hagney (pole vault, 6’6”) and Sara Veara (discus, 102’5”). Jacobsen also placed third in the long jump (13’7 1⁄2”). Veara was second in the shot put (28’3”).
Also placing for the Lady Indians were Lydia Fincham (second place, 400 meters, 1:03 and second place, 800 meters, 2:40), Lexi Parsell (second place, pole vault, 6”00”), Stephanie Briscoe (second place, discus, 97”00”), Melissa Seabright (fifth place, 200 meters, 30.37), Delilah Rhoten (fifth place, 300 hurdles, 59.42), Jillian Fortney (fifth place, long jump, 12’7 1⁄2”) and Jazmine Briscoe (fifth place, shot put, 25’6”).
The Indians finished in fifth place with 35 points. Keyser (151), Frankfort (92), Hampshire (47) and Moorefield (46) rounded out the top five schools. Berkeley Springs was led by first place finishes from Jackson Mundey (800 meters, 2:01) and the 4×400 meter relay team of Gabe McDonald, Tim Develing, Ben Golden and Mundey who ran a 3:36.
Also placing for the Tribe were Tim Develing (second place, 400 meters, 53.84), Deven Stone (fifth place, 800 meters, 2:11), Dakota Hamrick (fourth place, long jump, 5’ 2”), 4×200 meter relay team of Develing, Stone, Mc- Donald and Golden (second place, 1:38) and the 4×800 meter relay team of Mundey, Wil Nutter, Aiden Carpenter and Stone (3rd place, 8:50).
