Anna McClure Russell
1949-2022
Anna McClure Russell, age 72, died on January 27, 2022 in Charlotte, N.C., after a brief illness.
She was born in Salem, W.Va., on October 10, 1949 to the late Elmer and Pauline (Allen) McClure.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years James Russell of Charlotte, N.C.; one son Kirk Russell (Jennifer) of Charlotte, N.C.; sisters: Jene Underwood (Orland) of Center Point, W.Va., Tena Wellings (Dan) of West Union, W.Va.; brothers: Bryson McClure of Odenville, Ala., and Junior McClure (Fannie) of Navarre, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by brothers Larry McClure and Orie McClure. Mrs. Russell graduated in 1967 from Doddridge County School.
She was a teacher aide at D.C.H.S. and was the secretary for the Upward Bound Program at Salem College/Salem Teikyo University for over twenty years. She enjoyed working with the outstanding staff and students from seven different high schools.
After moving to Berkeley Springs, W.Va., she was a secretary at Warm Springs Middle School in Morgan County.
She was a long time member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Berkeley Springs and active in many church projects.
At the time of her death she was a member of Episcopal Church of our Savior in Rock Hill, S.C.
She enjoyed travel especially through the Scandinavian countries, family gatherings, the beach and card and trivia games. She enjoyed retirement in North Carolina being close to Kirk and Jennifer and grand-dog Daisy.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 20, from 4-8 p.m., at Spurgeon Funeral, 212 Front Street, West Union, WV 26456. Funeral Services will at 10 a.m., on Monday, February 21, at the funeral home with the Rev. Jane Rogers Wilson officiating. Internment will be at the Episcopal Church of our Savior in Rock Hill, S.C.
