Alma Jean Gregory

1932-2022

Alma Jean Gregory, age 90, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died on Saturday, August 6, 2022 at Stonerise Berkeley Springs.

Born March 26, 1932 in Hedgesville, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Charles Frederick “Fred” Sensel, Sr. and Nora Mabel Payne Sensel.

She was a Christian and was a loyal member for more than 60 years at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, where Alma taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. Alma attended Berkeley Springs High School. She worked at War Memorial Hospital in dietary, where she was well known for her homemade from scratch desserts and casseroles, and a homemaker in recent years.

Alma is survived by her children, Betty Jean Kelley and her husband Michael, Charles Lee Gregory, all of Berkeley Springs, one sister Darlene Carol Miller of Berkeley Springs, 10 grandchildren, Tracy Lee Gregory, Charles Darrin Gregory, Tori Jean Gregory, Troy Calvin Gregory, Michael Brian Kelley, Katherine Lynn “Kate” Mullen, Jamie Lynn Schooley, Benjamin Scott “Ben” Gregory, Tawn Michelle Gregory and Sean Newton Gregory, nine great-grandchildren, Ryan Gregory, Taylor Gregory, Lauryn Gregory, Dylan Gregory, Calvin Cowles, Allyson Gregory, Kelley Mullen, Sarah Mullen, Liam Kelley, two great-great-grandchildren, Waylon Gregory, Walter Gregory and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Calvin Newton Gregory, Sr., two sons, David Wayne Gregory and Calvin Newton “Newt” Gregory, Jr., two grandchildren, Calvin Newton “Newtie” Gregory III, Kevin Troy Gregory, two daughter-in-law’s, Wilma Kay Hogbin Gregory and Mary Jane Gregory, one brother Charles Frederick “Freddie” Sensel, Jr., and two sisters, Ilene Katherine Rankin and Douglass Ellen “Doug” Miller.

Celebration of Life Services will be conducted at 4 p.m. on Sunday, August 14, 2022 at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, 165 Pious Ridge Road, Berkeley Springs, W.Va., where the family will receive friends one hour prior to service. Pastor Chuck Bergen will officiate. Burial will be private.
