1937-2019
William Edward “Mr. Bill” Allgyer, age 81, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., departed this life peacefully on Friday, January 18, 2019 at Winchester Medical Center.
Born March 3, 1937 in McVeytown, Pa., he was the son of the late Kenneth Eugene and Dorothy Irene Renninger Allgyer.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church, serving as a Past Finance Committee Chair.
He graduated from Bratton-McVeytown-Oliver High School in McVeytown and from Williamsport Technical School with an Associate’s Degree in Architecture.
After graduation he went directly to work at Pennsylvania Glass Sand/U.S. Silica in Berkeley Springs, retiring in 1994 after 36 years of service as a Mining Engineer Superintendent.
After retiring from U.S. Silica, he enjoyed working part-time for Kesecker Realty as a consultant on various construction projects.
He sat on the Board of Directors of the Morgan County Senior Center, having served as a Past Board President, as well as delivering Meals-on-Wheels throughout the community.
Bill served on the Board of Warm Springs Public Service District.
He served with the U.S. Air Force from 1959 until 1962 and was honorably discharged from the Air National Guard of West Virginia and the U. S. Air Force Reserves.
He was a past member of the Hancock Lions Club. He was a 32nd Degree Mason of the Valley of Martinsburg Scottish Rite and a member of the Masonic lodge in McVeytown, Pa., receiving his 50-year pin and ceremony a few years ago.
Prior to his illness, he was an active member of the Ali Ghan Shrine, where he took much pride in being able to transport children and their families to the Shriner’s Hospitals in Philadelphia, Erie and Cincinnati.
Bill loved sports, woodworking, playing golf, the beach, but what gave him the most pleasure was being with his family.
Surviving are his wife, Margie Lee Hoover Allgyer, at home; two step-daughters, Amanda Jean Belcher and her husband Ryan of Matthews, N.C., and Victoria Emerald McCumbee and her fiancé Kyle Pell of Morgantown, W.Va.; one brother, James Allgyer and his wife Cindy of Carlisle, Pa.; two grandsons, Thomas Marshall Belcher and Ethan James Belcher, both of Matthews; a sister-in-law, Sally Allgyer of Boca Grande, Fla., and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard Allgyer and Robert Allgyer.
There will be a celebration of Bill’s life at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at First United Methodist Church, 49 S. Green Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va., where the family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. Pastor Doug Hoffman will officiate.
Interment will be private.
Military honors will be provided by the Tri-State Honor Guard.
