Washington County government officials announced they have filed litigation in federal court against numerous opioid manufacturers and distributors seeking damages relating to the ongoing opioid crisis in the county.
The Board of County Commissioners have retained the local law firm The Poole Law Group, along with a team of national law firms, to initiate litigation and represent the county’s interest in the opioid lawsuit, officials said in an August 30 press release.
“The opioid manufacturers and distributors have created a situation here in our County–and across the country—that we will be dealing with for decades. It is essential to have our government leaders and our citizens unified and committed to a long-term fight against this epidemic,” said Bruce Poole, an attorney at The Poole Law Group.
The City of Hagerstown has the same team of attorneys representing them in the opioid litigation. The case is being handled on a contingency basis, so there will not be a direct cost to the county relating to this litigation.

County officials said their involvement with the opioid litigation coincides with the local “Washington Goes Purple” initiative. Several events will be held to recognize September as National Recovery Month and bring addiction awareness to the local community.
