Wallace K. Hill

1924-2020

Wallace K. Hill, age 95, died peacefully on September 30, 2020, surrounded by loving family.

He is survived by daughter Robbin Hill Widmeyer of Mechanicsville Va., with whom he was living at the time, daughter Leah E. Goss of Denver Colo.; son Michael Burdick of Huntington W.Va.; step-daughter Pamela R. Yost of Lexington Ky., step-daughter Vicky Yost of Martinsburg W.Va., and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Geraldine A. Hill; son Robert Burdick of Huntington, W,Va., and son Kelley Hill of Huntington W.Va.

Wallace was born on November 29, 1924 in the Sir Johns Run community of Morgan County to parents Charles Averine Hill and Ethel Cornealie Kelly Hill.

In Spring 1943 he graduated from Berkeley Springs High School and immediately enlisted in the Army to fight in World War II in the European Theater. He fought with the 102nd Ozark Division, earning a Bronze Star. Upon his discharge in May 1946 he worked a series of jobs.

His first marriage was to Lillian Lopp of Fairview Drive, Morgan County.

His first government career was at Newton D. Baker Veterans’ Administration Hospital as a Nurses’ Aide. His second government career was at the IRS National Computer Center, Martinsburg W.Va., from which he retired.

He and wife Geraldine enjoyed a long and fulfilling retirement.

He was a man of faith, loved by everyone who knew him. Family and friends will always remember him for his ability to croon like Bing Crosby, his jokes and his positive outlook on life.

COVID conditions prevented a funeral gathering.

Wallace was quietly interred beside Geraldine on Wednesday October 7 at Pleasant View Cemetery in Morgan County.
