Tuesday ice causes outages

A storm bringing snow, ice and rain into the region has resulted in hundreds of Morgan County households being without power today, Tuesday, February. According to First Energy, the parent company of Potomac Edison, power outages are affecting close to 700 customers in Morgan County — most of them in Great Cacapon. Storm Center outage data on the company’s website reports that 646 of the company’s total 1,842 customers in Great Cacapon have no electrical service as of 1 p.m. The company indicates service should be restored by 4:30 p.m. Another 45 customers in the Berkeley Springs area were without electricity at 1:30 p.m.

Snow and sleet have been falling throughout the area since Monday evening, causing branches and trees to fall on utility lines in several areas.

Schools in Morgan County were closed on Tuesday — the second day this week that weather disrupted local activities. Several other public offices and businesses have closed on Tuesday due to slick conditions. Temperatures are expected to rise later, but are hovering around the freezing point.
