Tribe basketball defeats Hancock and Petersburg

The Berkeley Springs High School Indians Boys Varsity Basketball Team picked up two impressive wins this past week at home over Hancock and Petersburg. Both wins came at a needed time for Tribe head coach Chad Brinegar and his  team.
The Tribe hosted the Hancock Panthers in the Battle of the Potomac basketball version on Tuesday, January 15. The Indians jumped out to a 26-11 first quarter lead as Larry Miller had eight points, EJ Barkley seven points, Gavin Barkley four points, Payton Mann three points, Ty’Jae Armstrong two points, and Nathan Bland two points supplied the scoring charge.
In the second quarter the Indians added to their lead to take a 38-18 halftime lead. Carson Stotler and  Miller tallied six points each while EJ Barkley added two points.
In the third quarter the Indians outscored the Panthers 11-5 to extend their lead to 50-23. In the final period Berkeley Springs finished the game with a 13-12 run to take the 63-35 win.
The Indians were led by seniors EJ Barkley and Miller who each scored 13 points.  Stotler had 11 points,  Bland nine points, Cameron King six points, G. Barkley four points, Mann three points,  Armstrong two points and Trenton Kyne two points.
The Indians hosted the Petersburg Vikings in a key Class AA Region I Sectional game on Friday, January 18.
Petersburg opened the first quarter red hot with a 19-10 run to take the lead. In the second quarter the Indians battled back to trail 29-24 at the half.
In the third quarter the Vikings held onto their lead with a 16-15 run to end the period with a 45-39 lead.
The fourth quarter saw the Indians battle back with a furious 22-12 run to take the 61-57 come from behind win.
Berkeley Springs was led by EJ Barkley who had a game high 21 points.  Armstrong added 17 points, G. Barkley added 11 points,  Miller added five points, Mann added four points and  King added three points.
The Indians improved their record to 7-5 for the season.
