Tennis Senior Spotlight

Natalie Hashem

by Jamie Harris

Berkeley Springs High School senior Natalie Hashem and her senior tennis teammates have a more unique story that they will remember for years.

Imagine having to practice on courts that were in bad shape and do not meet regulations. How about not having a single home tennis match in her entire varsity career due to no home courts for the tennis team. Now despite those obstacles the talented Hashem helped lead the Berkeley Springs Lady Indians Tennis Team to win after win with gritty play and hustle.

Last season Hashem was the #3 singles and #1 doubles for the Lady Indians and just missed qualifying for the state tournament. In the spring of 2018 Hashem was part of the Class AA Region I Runner-up Lady Indians squad.

Hashem and her doubles partner Dalas Carder qualified for the state championships that year. Hashem was also part of several PVC Championship wins on the courts.

Despite not earning state honor’s Hashem played a much bigger part of the success of the Lady Indians tennis program. A consistent player and leader the last four years Hashem helped build the Berkeley Springs girls program into a consistent contender and winner.

Upon graduating from later this year Hashem will attend West Virginia University and major in biology.
