Tennis Senior Spotlight

Leah Reed

by Jamie Harris

Berkeley Springs High School senior Leah Reed, along with her senior tennis teammates, have a more unique story that they will remember for years.

Imagine having to practice on courts that were in bad shape. How about not having a single home tennis match in her entire varsity career due to no home courts for the tennis. Now despite those obstacles Reed helped lead the Berkeley Springs Lady Indians tennis team to win after win.

Last season Reed was the #2 singles and #2 doubles for the Lady Indians tennis team. Reed captured the 2019 PVC #2 singles championship. In the Class A/AA Region I Championships Reed finished in second place in #2 singles and #2 doubles with Kennedy Shives to qualify for the Class AA State Tennis Championships.

In 2018 Reed won a regional championship at #4 singles finishing the season undefeated and then teamed with Lizzy Langenstein to qualify for the WV State Tennis Championships at the #2 doubles.

Despite not earning state honors, Reed played a much bigger part of the success of the Lady Indians tennis program. A consistent player and leader the last three years Reed helped build the Berkeley Springs girls program into a consistent contender and winner. Reed was also a varsity letterman in cross country for Berkeley Springs as well.

In the fall Reed will attend West Virginia University.
