The Maryland Board of Elections has said it automatically sent most eligible Maryland voters an application for a mail-in ballot by U.S. Mail. Those applications should be appearing in mailboxes soon, say election officials.
Applications allow voters to request a mail-in ballot if they choose to vote that way in the November general election.
The application comes with a postage-paid return envelope, so voters do not have to incur any costs to take advantage of the mail-in ballot option.
Voters who already made a request for a mail-in ballot won’t get the application, said state officials.
Board of Elections officials expect to mail out ballots to those who have requested them by the end of September. Those who have requested a ballot by email will receive an email with a link that will allow them to print and mail a ballot.
Mail-in ballots must be requested by October 20.
Ballots can be returned by mail or put in a designated drop-box through Election Day, November 3.
Maryland will also hold in-person early voting from October 26 through November 2 at early voting centers in every county in the state. Polls will be open on Election Day, November 3, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. The state has said there will be roughly 350 voting centers open around the state, and voters can cast a ballot at any voting center in their county of residence.
