Softball senior spotlight

Taylor Stotler

A declaration by Governor Jim Justice  on Tuesday, April 21 said that students would not be returning to the classroom this spring. Subsequentially the   declaration by the WVSSAC that there would be no 2020 sports season immediately brings to mind a quote often attributed to the great UCLA basketball coach John Wooden: “Things work out best for those who make the best of how things work out.”
One of those athletes affected by the end of the 2020 softball season is Berkeley Springs High School Lady Indians softball player Taylor Stotler. A dangerous lead-off hitter and speedy outfielder, Stotler helped contribute to a lot of wins over the last three years on the diamond for the Lady Indians.
Last spring Stotler was named Co-Player of the Year for The Morgan Messenger and The Hancock News All-Area Softball team. Stotler was the spark plug to the Lady Indians offense last season as the lead-off hitter for Coach David Michael’s squad.
Stotler batted .405 with 30 hits, six doubles, three triples, scored 24 runs, had 10 RBIs, and stole 10 bases. Stotler had a fielding percentage of .925 in centerfield. With her bat and speed Stotler was always a threat to get on base and put her team into a scoring situation all season long.
Stotler was also named to the 2019 PVC Softball team.
With the end of her Berkeley Springs High School softball career now over, Stotler will now have to rely on her favorite memories and wins in a Lady Indians softball uniform.
Stotler finishes up her Berkeley Springs High School athletic career as a four year varsity letterman in volleyball, basketball and softball. Upon graduating later this spring Stotler plans to attend West Virginia University.
