Roy E. Breeden, Sr.
1938-2019
Roy Elwood “Woody” Breeden, Sr., 81, of Berkeley Springs, died Thursday, June 27, 2019 at his home.
Born March 13, 1938 in Charlottesville, Va., he was the son of the late Joel Washington and Mary Lee Hensley Breeden.
He attended Mt. Zion United Methodist Church.
He attended Hancock High School in Hancock.
He served with the United States Army during the Vietnam Era during 1961-1967.
He retired as a laborer after 32 years from the U.S. Silica Plant in Berkeley Springs.
He was a member of the Webster B. Harrison American Legion Post #26 in Hancock and Teamsters Local Union 992 in Hagerstown.
He liked hunting, fishing and had a passion for landscaping and maintaining his yard.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Iva Lou Alderton Breeden at home; his children, Ruth “Beth” Fisher, Augusta, Ga. and Roy “Chip” Breeden, Jr., Hedgesville; seven grandchildren, Eric Fisher, Rachel Fisher, David Fisher all of Augusta, Nathan Fisher, Atlanta, Ga., Christopher Breeden, Jonathon Breeden, Adrianna Breeden all of Hedgesville; two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Betsy Breeden; one brother, James Breeden, Sr. and one sister, Elsie “Betty Jane” Waugh.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, July 6 at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Berkeley Springs. Pastor Mark Johnson officiated. Burial with graveside military honors provided by the Tri-State Honor Guard was in Spohrs Crossroads Cemetery.
