Ronald J. Zerr

1942-2018

Ronald J. Zerr of Berkeley Springs, West Virginia, age 76, was called to his eternal reward in Heaven on Sunday, March 18, 2018. He was born in St. Charles, Missouri on December 30, 1942.

Mr. Zerr was predeceased by: his parents, Ralph and Clara Zerr of St. Charles, Mo.; his siblings, Ralph Zerr, Sr., Lucille Zerr and Rita Zerr; and his wife, Naira Aponte Zerr.

He is survived by his siblings: Margaret Myer of St. Charles, Mo., Robert Zerr of Kansas City, Mo., Bernard Zerr of Bella Vista, Ark., Paul Zerr of St. Charles, Mo.; his wife, Sheila Zerr of Berkeley Springs W,Va.; his children, James Zerr of Ellicott City, Md., Lisa Christiansen of St. Charles, Mo., and Mark Zerr of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; his step-children, Joann Hoover, Paul Bittner and Eddie Sturba of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; his daughters-in-law, Lisa Zerr of Ellicott City, Md., and Kimberly Zerr of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; eight grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Zerr joined the Navy in 1960 and was stationed in Iceland and Puerto Rico, where he met Naira Aponte. They were married on October 1, 1966 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Mr. Zerr married Sheila Zerr in Winchester, Va., on September 23, 2003. He worked for 26 years for the Department of Defense where he traveled the world. He then worked for several Defense contractors including, E-Systems, Raytheon and Northrop Grumman. He moved to Berkeley Springs, W.Va., in 1996 where he later enjoyed his retirement.

Mr. Zerr loved to travel and spend time with his extended family and enjoyed the outdoors immensely.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., at noon on Saturday, April 7, 2018, followed by a Celebration of Life at the American Legion Hall in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., around 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Mr. Zerr’s name to St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.
