Robert E. Venuto, Sr.

1938-2018

Robert “Bob the Barber” Edward Venuto, Sr., 79, of Berkeley Springs, died Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Md.

Born December 18, 1938 in Balitmore, Md., he was the son of the late Frank George and Mary Carmen Ambrosetti Venuto.

He was a member of Alderton-Dawson Sons of the American Legion Squadron 60 and Loyal Order of Moose #1483.

He retired in 1997 after 25 years of service from Lucent Technologies. After retiring, he opened his own barber shop in Georgia. In 2001 he moved to Berkeley Springs and opened Bob’s Barber Shop. He was a barber for 52 years.

He was an avid Baltimore Ravens fan, liked playing Bingo, cutting his lawn, cooking and eating his creations.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years Maria Lena Comp Venuto at home; his children, Robert Venuto, Jr. and Mary Smith, both of Baltimore, Md., Beth Ott, Salisbury, Md., Richard Darnell, Dawsonville, Ga. and Rita Darnell, Cumming, Ga.; 10 grandchildren, Carl Sweitzer, Eric Ratliff, Lyndzie Schaefer, Ryan Ratliff, Jason Venuto, Anthony Venuto, Kayla Weaver, Alyssa Stumpf, Jadyne Ott and River Smith and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one grandson, Scott Weaver, Jr. and one sister, Camella Black.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Thursday, May 17 at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs with Pastor Kenny Mason officiating. Burial will be private.

Family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today, Wednesday, May 16 and 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
