Rivers rose from heavy rains

The low water bridge on Rockford Road in Great Cacapon on Friday, May 1 was clogged with large tree debris after heavy rains Thursday night drove the Cacapon and Potomac Rivers up overnight. The Cacapon topped out at 9,150 cubic feet per second at around 5:30 a.m. on Friday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey river gage near Great Cacapon. Water levels rose from 11 p.m. on Thursday to the high point Friday morning. By 9 a.m., water levels had started to drop.

The Rockford Road bridge was one of several local bridges repaired after the June 2018 floods.
