Raymond Lee Rosensteel

Raymond Lee Rosensteel, age 86, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died on Friday, April 30, 2021 at the Berkeley Springs Center LLC.

Born July 5, 1934 in Mount Union, Pa., he was the son of the late Boyd and Mary Cornelius Rosensteel.

He was a member of The Refuge Community Church in Berkeley Springs, where he was very active within the congregation and was part of Men’s for Missions.

Raymond was a graduate of Mt. Union High School.

He and his wife, Caroline managed Bowman’s Department Store for several years, then Raymond and Jackie McBee purchased Bowman’s and built and changed the name to R&M Department Store on the corner of North Washington and Independence Streets in Berkeley Springs. They worked and provided for the community for 62 years until their retirement.

Raymond liked watching baseball and going to baseball games, planting and working in his vegetable garden, and watching his favorite football team Notre Dame.

Raymond is survived by his wife of 67 years Caroline Mae Madden Rosensteel, at home; one daughter, Sharon Elaine Payne and her husband Joseph, both of Newfane, N.Y.; his daughter-in-law, Esta Lee Rosensteel; eight grandchildren, Matthew Justin Rosensteel and his wife Jacqueline, Nathan Boone Rosensteel and his wife Hannah, Lucas Michael Rosensteel and his wife Desirae, Krista Leigh Bard and her husband Brian, Kylee Renee Cox, Christopher Lee Copenhaver and his wife Bailey, all of Berkeley Springs, Amy Jo Harshman and her husband Nate, both of Westfield, Ind., Mindy Leanne Grimes and her husband Jeff of Newfane, N.Y.; nine great grandchildren, Ellie, Preston, Claire, Avarie, Wayson, Annabelle, Addison, Savannah and Oliver and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Raymond is preceded in death by his one son, Pastor Michael Wayne Rosensteel; three sisters, Virginia Richardson, Dorothy King, Betty Rosensteel; five brothers, Art Cornelius, Bernard, Robert, Fred and Stanley Rosensteel.

Celebration of Life services were conducted on Monday, May 3, 2021 at The Refuge Community Church, 33 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va. Pastors Joseph Payne and Zack Byrne officiated. Burial will be private.
