Police handle weekend threat to school

by Geoff Fox

Last weekend, Hancock Police investigated threats a student made about harming students at Hancock Middle-Senior High School.

In a release on the department’s social media page, police said they had interviewed the student making the threats and staff of Washington County Public Schools was aware and dealing with the situation.

There had been several calls to the Hancock Police Department from concerned parents, asking if they should send their children to school on Tuesday. Schools were closed Monday for the Presidents’ Day holiday.

In the release, police said the parents should send their kids to school as normal and there is no threat at this time.

“There will be an increased police presence in the area of the schools which is normal anytime a threat is made,” the release said.
