The Paw Paw Pirates Varsity Boys’ Basketball Team split a pair of games last week on the hard wood. On Monday, January 27 the Pirates hosted the Moorefield Yellow Jackets at the Paw Paw gym.
Moorefield jumped out to a 19-9 first quarter lead. By the end of the second quarter the Yellow Jackets held a 36-16 lead.
In the second half Moorefield continued to cruise to a 63-35 win.
Dylan Moreland led Paw Paw with 17 points and three assists. Colby Ridgeway (seven points, seven rebounds and two steals), Gibson Fravel (two points and two rebounds), Dalton Kasekamp (four points and five rebounds) and Gavin Gunther (five points and three rebounds) also led Paw Paw.
The Pirates hosted Paden City in a game that four quarters could not decide on Friday, January 31. Not even overtime could settle the outcome and eventually a double overtime gave the Pirates a thrilling 73-69 win.
In the first quarter Paden City took a 15-12 lead. At the end of the second quarter Paden City took a 34-26 halftime lead. Paw Paw battled back in the third quarter, but still trailed 44-41. In the fourth quarter the Pirates got things going and forced a 55-55 tie at the buzzer.
In the first overtime both teams went back and forth, but the game still ended in a deadlock at 64-64. In the second overtime Paw Paw dug deep and was able to take the 73-69 win.
Ridgeway had a monster game with 31 points and five rebounds while Dylan Moreland had 26 points and six rebounds. Paw Paw also got scoring from Logan King (three points and five rebounds), Kasekamp (five points and 13 rebounds), Johnny Rodriquez (five points and three rebounds), Tyler McGraw (two points and two rebounds) and Jacob Moreland (two points and five rebounds) filled the stat sheets.
