This coming Tuesday evening, August 7, the Hancock Police Department is teaming up with Hancock in Motion to put on National Night Out in Widmeyer Park. The annual community event is free and starts at 6 p.m.
There will be free hotdogs, chips, and bottled water for folks to eat as well as free snow cones and nachos until supplies run out.
For the active folks, there will be a 3-on-3-basketball tournament; bounce houses and water slide for the kids, obstacle course, rock wall climbing, and Joint Training Facility with their inflatable games.
There will also be face painting, kids hair coloring, games, K-9 demonstrations, demonstrations from local groups and organizations, information stands, and more.
Police from across the tri-state area will also be in attendance.
Take Two will be providing music and Max 92.9 will be broadcasting from the event as well.
Fireworks will begin at dark, organizers said.
This is the 35th anniversary for National Night Out, which 
started in 1981 as National Association of Town Watch to connect community watch programs across the nation and provide resources they needed to make a difference in the neighborhoods.
In 1984, the NATW introduced National Night Out as a night communities members and police officers would band together to meet each other, discuss safety concerns, and celebrate their neighboods.
Over the last 35 years, there have been 38.6 million community participants in 16,377 unique neighborhoods.
While Hancock and other communities will be celebrating National Night Out on August 7, the state of Texas and some Southeast cities will be celebrating National Night Out on October 2 to avoid the brutal early August heat.
