As of Monday, July 12, the percentage of people in Morgan County who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 is lower than any other county in West Virginia except Mingo.
Statewide, 42.2% of West Virginia residents are fully vaccinated against the virus, according to the West Virginia Department of Health & Human Resources. In Morgan County, that number is 26.6% overall.
Only Mingo County, of the state’s 55 counties, has a lower overall rate of those who are fully vaccinated, at 23.6%.
In Morgan County, 49.7% of residents age 65+ are fully vaccinated, compared to 71.1% of all West Virginians in the same age group.
In Morgan County, 29.9% of residents over age 12 are fully vaccinated, compared to 48.6% statewide in the same age group.
In Morgan County, 31.6% of residents over age 18 are fully vaccinated, compared to 51% of people statewide in the same age group.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, 48% of the population in the United States is fully vaccinated against the virus. That number includes 79% of Americans over age 65.
Nationwide, 58.9% of people over 18 and 56.2% of those over age 12 are fully vaccinated.
There is no is no FDA-approved vaccine for children under age 12.
