Morgan County EXPO is this weekend

Starting off with a hometown field advantage under the Friday night lights and stretching into Sunday afternoon, the Morgan County EXPO promises activities for all ages throughout this weekend.

The EXPO, formerly the Morgan County Fair, will be held in a variety of places, but the main event will take place in a new location this year – the Berkeley Springs Senior Center near U.S. Silica.

Event organizers have started the schedule with a tailgate and spirit fest at Berkeley Springs High School for the school’s football game against Petersburg on Friday, August 24. The tailgate begins at 4:30 p.m. and community members are urged to wear the school’s colors – blue and gold. The game begins at 7 p.m.

On Saturday, August 25, most of the action is centered at the Senior Center. There will be a series of talks from 12:30 to 3 p.m. in the main room of the center. Topics include Morgan County history, bees, safety and Geocaching.

There will displays both outside the center and inside – all from community groups.

Live music includes performances by Jona-African, a fiddle contest, the Tri-State Ukelectric Orchestra, Black Cat Music and the Hot Rod Rockers.

Contests on Saturday include the Watermelon Eating event at 1 p.m., the Donut-Eating event at 2 p.m. and the Kid’s Tractor Pull at 5 p.m.

Expo entries of arts, crafts, food and crops will also be on display. The annual 4H Cake Auction is set to run from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.

On Sunday, August 26, the Morgan County Partnership will sponsor the Youth Art & Music in the Berkeley Springs State Park from noon to 4 p.m. The Berkeley Springs Lions Club is also hosting a free swim and free hot dogs at the downtown park.

Back at the Senior Center, EXPO organizers have set a Civil War Chapel Service at 11 a.m., followed by exhibits, bingo, BBQ and music from noon until 5 p.m., when the EXPO closes.

Limited parking for the EXPO is available at the Senior Center. Additional parking, with a shuttle service, is at the Berkeley Springs train depot. A shuttle will run people to the EXPO every 10 minutes.
