A Monday afternoon vehicle accident on Martinsburg Road that involved a Morgan County school bus with no students on board and a passenger vehicle closed the roadway for half an hour and resulted in minor injuries to a driver, said Sheriff K.C. Bohrer in a press release today.
According to police, Bus #194 had delivered all student bus riders home at the end of the school day on April 10 and was westbound in the area of Grove Heights when a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction crossed the center line and struck the bus.
The eastbound vehicle was carrying a minor child as a passenger, said police. The driver of the vehicle, who police didn’t identify, was trapped briefly and had to be extricated by the Berkeley Springs Volunteer Fire Department. That driver was transported to War Memorial Hospital with minor injuries, said Bohrer. The minor child was checked for injuries and released into the custody of another adult, said police.
Cpl. Kevin Barney, who is also the county’s School Resource Officer, investigated the collision and charged the eastbound driver with driving left of center and failure to maintain control.
Martinsburg Road was closed for 30 minutes and both vehicles were towed from the scene.
