Melissa J. Payne
1954-2020
Melissa Joan Payne, age 66, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died on Sunday, July 26, 2020 at her home while under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle.
Born March 8, 1954 in Berkeley Springs, W.Va. she was the daughter of the late Donald Clifford Kyne and Peggy Joan Sheppard Kyne, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.
She was a member of Wesleyan Chapel in Berkeley Springs.
Melissa was a graduate of Berkeley Springs High School and also attended James Rumsey Technical Institute.
She worked as a secretary with U.S. Silica for more than 35 years.
She enjoyed shopping, antiquing, cooking and flower gardening. Melissa loved to spend time on their river lot and was always helping others.
Surviving are her husband of 44 years, Marvin Richard “Dick” Payne, at home; her children, Richard Scott Payne and his wife Tina of Largent, W.Va., Brenda Lyn Shrout and her husband Eddie of Martinsburg and John William Payne of Berkeley Springs; her sister, Marcia Gay Cross of New Market, Tenn.; her brothers, Donald Clifford Kyne and Michael Steven Kyne, both of Berkeley Springs; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 31, 2020 at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va. with Pastor Matthew Swope officiating. Interment will be in Spohrs Crossroads Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 3-6 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
