Maurice D. Kesecker

1937-2020

Maurice Dean “Deanie” Kesecker, age 82, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died on Sunday, March 8, 2020 at War Memorial Hospital.

Born July 14, 1937 in Berkeley Springs, W.Va. on the family farm he was the son of the late Paul Franklin and Julia Viola Grove Kesecker.

He was a member of Wesleyan Chapel in Berkeley Springs.

He graduated from Berkeley Springs High School.

He was in the United States Air Force.

He was a 45 year member of the Farm Bureau.

His love for the land and the animals were a big part of his life.

He was part of the last Tomato Canning Factory in Morgan County. The cannery closed in 1979. They grew tomatoes for delivering canned tomatoes and water. Later he drove a truck delivering apples south and getting merchandise on return trips. In his later years he farmed producing vegetables for all that came by the farm. He was very proud of his 700 tomato plants and 300 sweet banana pepper plants and potatoes. He always said sweet corn was the easiest to grow. He ran a cow/calf operation from an early age and still to this day has a head of 50 cows. Everyone that came by the farm to work became family.

He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. His wisdom and knowledge was ever flowing. He never met a stranger.

He is survived by his wife Patricia Ann Swaim Kesecker of 51 years at home; one daughter Vanessa Sue Gentile and husband David; one son, Leroy Allen Kesecker and his companion Loretta Carder; one brother, Leo Vincent Kesecker of Berkeley Springs; six grandchildren, Kelsey Dawn Kesecker and fiancé Henry Lantz, Levi Allen Kesecker, Austin David Gentile, Abigail “Abby” Marie Gentile, Matthew Scott Young and Laken Elizabeth Dillow and husband Wendell; five great-grandchildren, Kierra Marie Young, Blairlyn Dillow, Adilene Dillow, Wendell Dillow II and Hunter Lee Lantz.
