Mary (Miller) Haymaker

1925-2018

Mary (Miller) Haymaker, 92, was born October 17, 1925 in Berkeley Springs, to the late Charles E. Miller and Ethel (nee Michael).

Mary passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 29, 2018, at Hillhaven Nursing Center, Adelphi, Md.

She is survived by her son, Lawrence Haymaker (Elisabeth) of Maryland, and her brother James Miller (Douglass) of Berkeley Springs. Mary also leaves grandchildren Lisa, Theresa (Joseph), Nicholas, Jennifer and Ashley; great-grandchildren Savanna and Robert; loving in-laws Dixie, Ruth and Edwina; along with many cherished nieces, nephews and long-time friends.

Mary attended school in Berkeley Springs, studied business at Strayer University, and was a secretary for The Red Cross in Washington, D.C.

She was a member of the Moose Lodge, an avid fan of Nationals baseball, a Redskins season ticket holder, and an active member of Thoroughbred horse racing throughout the country.

She loved life, laughter, people, animals and shopping Avon products with her friends.

She attended Mass at St. Matthias in Seabrook, Md., and St. Jerome in Hyattsville, Md.

Mary is preceded in death by husbands Edwin Dowling (1951) and Norman L. Haymaker (1989); her daughter Leah Proctor (David) and son Louis Haymaker; siblings Bernard Miller, Virginia Zettle, Carl Miller, Charles Miller Jr., Robert Miller, Alfred Miller, Joseph Miller, Larry Miller and Dennis Miller.

There will be a private celebration of Mary’s life, with a graveside service at a later date.
