Maria V. Makinson
1925-2021
Maria Vlasta Makinson, age 95, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at WVU-EAST Medicine Berkeley Medical Center in Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born December 15, 1925 in Germany, she was the daughter of the late Herman and Maria roz. Soukupova Hopfinger.
She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.
Maria graduated from public schools in Germany.
Maria was active with the Senior Life Services of Morgan County.
She was a gemologists, enjoyed working with gems. Maria enjoyed reading, doing needlepoint and loved being out in the nature and wildlife, especially doing bird hikes and walks.
Maria is survived by one nephew and one great-niece.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Franklin Makinson on May 25, 2016 and one niece, Laura “Kathy” Kirkwood.
Family will receive friends from 2-5 p.m. on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va., where the rosary will be recited at 5 p.m. Private burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery in Ellicott City, Md.
