Man charged in Saturday stabbing

A Berkeley Springs man was charged for stabbing on N. Washington Street.

According to a press release from the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department on Saturday, September 8, Corporal Lemon and Special Deputy T. J. Johnson of the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department responded to 25 Union Street, Berkeley Springs for a reported stabbing.

On arrival at the scene they discovered a subject identified as Thomas Whittaker, 56, from Berkeley Springs suffering from two apparent knife wounds.

Through the investigation it was determined that the location of the offense was 140 N. Washington Street and the suspect was identified as Phillip Charles McAnulty, 60, also of Berkeley Springs.

McAnulty was placed under arrest by Special Deputy Johnson and arraigned by Magistrate Ambrose on a $30,000 bond.

Whittaker was transported to Winchester Medical Center in stable condition.
