Police have charged a Morgan County man with reckless driving and leaving the scene of a property damage crash, after he ran his pickup truck into an old store at the Fish Hatchery and then fled the area.

On Monday, August 2, at approximately 12:30 p.m., Morgan E911 received a call of a subject who had run into the old general store at the intersection of U.S. 522 and Fish Hatchery Road.
Sheriff K.C. Bohrer said the caller advised a dark-colored pickup had struck the building and then backed up and proceeded down Fish Hatchery Road at a high rate of speed and recklessly. The caller was run off the road by the truck, police said.
Sheriff Bohrer responded to the incident.
At the scene. no identifying automotive parts were located. Sheriff Bohrer put out a broadcast to “be on the lookout” for a dark colored pickup truck with extreme damage to the front end. The sheriff continued up Fish Hatchery Road looking for the truck.
At the intersection of Fish Hatchery Road and Timber Ridge Road, Bohrer located a dark colored truck cap that had recently come off a vehicle and was laying on the berm.
Bohrer continued south on Timber Ridge and located two subjects who were out for a walk. Those subjects told Bohrer about a truck who had come by them driving recklessly and they had to get over in the ditch for fear they might be hit.
Bohrer said they advised him the truck was parked on Meadow Lane.
Bohrer went to the residence and located a 2001 GMC pickup truck with extreme damage to the front end and a missing cap.
At the home Bohrer located Frederick William Oakes, who admitted to striking the old general store and leaving the scene of the crash.
Bohrer charged Oakes with leaving the scene of a property damage crash and reckless driving.
