Kenneth Norman Hayes, Sr.

1944-2021

With heavy hearts, we regretfully inform you that Kenneth Norman “Smoke” Hayes, Sr., 76, passed away on Saturday, July 24, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family.

Kenneth was born on August 17, 1944 in Baltimore City, Maryland and was the son of the late Howard Hayes and Edith Turner Hayes.

He worked in pulpwood and at Consolidated Orchards and retired from Federal Mogul (ABEX).

He loved fishing, hunting, playing horseshoes with the Cumberland Horse Shoe League and playing cards with his buddies at the Oldtown V.F.W.

He played in the PenMar Baseball League, the Paw Paw Softball Team and on the Federal Mogul (ABEX) Softball Team.

He had a green thumb and took pride in having the best looking garden.

On January 17, 1965, he married Dorothy Lee (Bishop) Hayes, who survives.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 56 years are one son, Kenneth Norman Hayes, Jr. (& Mary) of Paw Paw; four daughters, Nina Rae Mann of Paw Paw, Peggy Sue Emerson of Paw Paw, Dorothy Marie Hayes of Paw Paw and Kimberly Dawn Hayes of Paw Paw; three brothers, Vernon “Pete” Hayes (& Margaret) of Missouri, William “Billy” Hayes of Paw Paw and Elmer King of Paw Paw; three sisters, Janie Wolford (& Charlie) of Augusta, W.Va., Scootie Ricewick of Paw Paw and Junie Allen of Paw Paw; ten grandchildren, Micheal Wayne Mann (& Jessica), BC Hayes (& Sara), Crista Lane Mann, Leah Dawn Crawford (Ralph), Eric Tyler Bullett (Carissa), Rachel Caroline Kline (Chris), Katelynn Nicole Hayes (Cody), Dustin Micheal Gerry, Dakota Skylar Gerry (Marilyn) and Kelsey Brae Hayes and fifteen great grandchildren, with one on the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Howard Junior Hayes, Roger Hayes, Keith Hayes, Johnny Hayes and Robert Hayes and two sisters, Helen Hayes and Vivian Watson.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 27, 2021 at Lighthouse Assembly of God Church where a funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 28 with Pastor Earl Travis officiating. Interment will be at Camp Hill Cemetery, Paw Paw.
