Juveniles charged for possession of marijuana

Three Hancock juveniles between the ages of 15- and 16-years old were charged on Wednesday, May 16, through the Department of Juvenile Justice with possession of marijuana, less than 10 grams.

Possession of less than 10 grams of marijuana is a civil offense. Subjects who are younger than 18-years of age and found in possession are referred to the Department of Juvenile Justice similar to those found in possession of alcohol.

Hancock Police on routine bike patrol on the State Park, Rails and Trails, observed the juveniles in the area of the 522 Bridge overpass after receiving information that illegal activity was being conducted on the Rail and Trail.

Hancock Police Officer Rick Cook, with the use of K-9 Benno, had recently found illegal drugs hidden along the trail.

The bike patrol unit was able to approach the juveniles undetected and was able to watch them retrieve an item hidden along the trail.

The item they retrieved was a bag of marijuana, police said.
