John F. Sutton
1936-2020
John Franklin Sutton was born on May 30, 1936 and died Sunday, September 27, 2020.
He graduated from Poughkeepsie High School and got his B.S. from Union College in Schenectady, N.Y. in Atomic Physics.
He was employed by the Navy doing tests on missiles and after a year went to work for NASA at Goddard Spaceflight Center where he remained during his entire working life, earning 40 patents and completed occasional projects for them after retirement. As one of his first assignments for the Navy he designed the first chamber for testing the affects of space on rockets.
While working he attended George Washington University and American University and earned his Masters and Ph.D. in physics.
He is survived by his long-time companion, Helen Lane; one sister Sylvia Sutton; three children, Andrea Malette, Elizabeth Sutton and John Sutton; five grandchildren, Robert and Joseph Malette, Caitlin, Christina and Cassandra Sutton and four great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, November 8 at 2 p.m. at the Country Inn for family and friends.
