James E. Shaw
1933-2020
James Edward Shaw, 86, of Needmore, Pa., died at his home on Saturday, February 29, 2020.
Born March 11, 1933 in Hancock, he was the son of the late William E. and Ethel Regina Roberta Fisher Shaw and the husband of Anna Jane Brakeall Shaw, whom he married on June 21, 1957.
He was a 1950 graduate of Warfordsburg High School, Warfordsburg, Pa.
He was a member of the St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church, Hancock.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from Rayloc, Hancock. He was a member of the James W. Bowers Masonic Lodge #173 in Hancock, the Hagerstown Forest #95 Tall Cedars of Lebanon, the A.A.S.R. Northern Masonic Jurisdiction USA, in Harrisburg, Pa. and the 11th Airborne Division Association.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Sharon Elbin, Greencastle, Pa.; two sons, Michael Shaw and Daniel Shaw, both of Needmore; one sister, Nanette Malarkey, Downey, Calif.; five grandchildren, David Dere III, Dianna Courtney, Jeneice Shaw-Wuertenberg, Andrew Shaw and Jennifer Elbin; five great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bernard “Bud” Shaw.
Funeral services will be held at the St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church, Hancock today, Wednesday, March 4 at 11 a.m. Rev. F. Allan Weatherholt, Jr. and Rev. Steven McCarty will be officiating. Burial with military honors by the Tri-State Honor Guard will be in the Tonoloway Baptist Cemetery, Needmore.
The family will receive friends at the church Wednesday from 10 a.m. until time for the services. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church, 2 East High Street, Hancock, MD 21750 or to SpiriTrust Lutheran Hospice, 2700 Lutheran Drive, Chambersburg, PA 17202.
