Indians finish fourth at Region I Championships

by Jamie Harris

The Class AA Region I Cross Country Championships were held at Frankfort High School last Wednesday, October 21. Region I features some of the state’s best cross country runners and teams in the state of West Virginia. Four of the teams were ranked first, second, fourth and sixth in the state rankings. The 2020 regional contest proved no different as it was a fight to see who would advance out of the region for the state championships.

The young Berkeley Springs High School Indians Team was not able to place any runners in the top 11 spots to qualify for the state meet. The team missed out on the third team spot in the meet, but did pull off a very impressive fourth place finish in the team standings. Frankfort took home the team championship with a low score of 29. Fairmont Senior was second with a score of 50 and East Fairmont third with a team score of 65.

Berkeley Springs finished in fourth place with a score of 127.

Sophomores Jackson Mundey (26th place, 21:12) and Isaac Harris (27th place, 21:39) and junior Jacob Rough (28th place, 21:46) gave the Indians three runners in the top 30. Junior Tim Develing (31st place, 22:32), sophomore Aiden Carpenter (36th place, 23:16), senior Dalton Weller (39th place, 24:26) and sophomore Brett Shoemaker (44th place, 25:21) rounded out the runners for the Tribe.
